Yvonne Chadderton – History & Background

Background and Experience

Working at Bench

Cartier of New Bond Street was my placement whilst studying for City & Guilds. Working in their diamond and gemstone department, for two years, developed a lasting passion in precious stones. Their workshop gave me a benchmark of quality and craftsmanship upon which I base my creations.

For twenty years I ran ‘The Last Word’, a shop in Royton, making hand-made jewellery and silverware. Deciding on a change of direction I spent 14 months travelling in Africa, Australia and South America. My workshop/studio now continues at home, just outside Littleborough on the edge of beautiful moorland.

Inspiration

Water provides my inspiration, closely followed by sculpture and architectural forms. My creations tend to have simple, clean lines and make a strong statement. Satin finished metal often emphasises the sculptural aspect.

With one-off hand-made pieces I invariably use gemstones and/or diamonds. Designs evolve from the shape and colour of the stones. The design is unique but can be repeated in a suite of jewellery such as a pendant and matching earrings.

Diversity

Commissions from my customers are diverse, from tiaras and diamond studded suspender belts, to walking stick handles and church wafer trays. My jewellery is always carefully designed for strength and durability. It will last a lifetime and I hope become a much loved heirloom.

It is possible for your own jewellery to be melted down and re-designed to create a new item. All work is hallmarked by the London Assay Office, your guarantee of the metal standard.
