Have you ever wanted to try your hand at making jewellery but don’t have the time to sign up for weeks of evening classes? Or are you frustrated in a large class where you waste valuable time waiting to see the teacher? Come and stay at my house on the edge of the moors where you will use my workbench in the studio and have one-to-one tuition.
As a designer making jewellery for over 30 years, I offer informal courses adapted to individual needs. From beginners wanting a “try out” session, to those with experience wishing to develop their skills further. My specialities for advanced students are chasing and repousse, raising and box-making, some stone setting, and also gemmology and diamond grading.
Commission work often involves re-designing and melting down customers old jewellery. Pieces that are worn out or have been handed down through the family that are no longer fashionable. You can bring your own gold and silver to melt down and make it into something new, and if you are stuck for ideas and looking for inspiration we can design the piece together using my extensive design book. There are two workbenches, so it is possible for couples to come and make each others wedding rings, creating a truly unique and special heirloom to be passed on to future generations.
Courses run Friday to Sunday, arriving Friday night for dinner and to discuss the jewellery you wish to make, followed by two days of tuition 10 – 5pm on the Saturday and Sunday with an hour for lunch. After a day at the workbench there are lots of walks nearby to explore in the evening, ranging from Blackstone Edge on the moors to a more leisurely saunter along the picturesque Rochdale Canal. Weekday courses can also be arranged.
The all inclusive price is £299, the non-residential price including lunch both days is £249, all types of dietary requirements can be catered for.
Due to demand I am now also offering "one-day taster" tuition days for £125.
To book a place please telephone me on 01706 378424 or 07768 327044, a deposit of £100 is required payable by debit/credit card or cheque.
